Yay! I'm on my new PC now, it's really awesome. :D Yea, I went with Vista and I'm kinda glad I did, it was confusing at first but I figured out I can find things that were originally out in the open in XP by messing with Instant Search (it took me a LONG time to find the Yahoo! Messenger profile folder so I could back-up my logs and whatnot).
It runs faster than my XP machine ever did. :P Even with 2GB, I haven't had a slow down yet, but we'll see how that all changes once I get Crysis (YAY!), City of Heroes, and Orange Box on here and I start playing. I know CoH and Orange Box should work, but I don't know 100% about Crysis, I know I can play it on medium settings, but not high.
I've got 3 pretests today for my GED in about 2 hours as of the time of this post, so I won't be able to install any games (I'm actually studying for them as I type this up) before I go. I managed to turn on DreamScene and find a neat movie as my background...it's a bunch of fishes underwater, very soothing.
As for a log of yesterday:
Torin came over yesterday and set up the new PC (which is very large in size compared to my old one), he also set up my old XP PC in my mom's room so she could have something faster than Windows 2000.
Then, we went to Nebraska Furniture Mart to pick up a UPS for this machine and got Crysis (the game is mainly to test the graphics card, but I wanna play it too). I tried Vista on all of their PCs and my PC is a tad faster, I'm kinda shocked since they were high-end HP machines. The UPS is VERY large and VERY heavy.
While we were at NFM, I somehow managed to eat a Steakhouse Burger, a lot of fries, a Cookie Dough pie and a medium drink (lemonade!) at the Burger King inside the Mart. Didn't think I'd be that hungry. :P
After NFM, we went to a cellphone place and looked at a replacement phone for me. They had a nice $50 used camera phone but I didn't really want it...plus I didn't want to buy my phone from there since that particular Cricket dealership also sold cigarettes, wine, beer, hard liquor...it was kind of a weird combination and the people behind the counter kept trying to sell me a $100 used phone. -_-
Now, Vista isn't 100% awesome. While the bugs I don't like are because of programs and not the OS itself, it's still a little annoying.
I have my drive split into C and D. C has Windows and all of my programs (obviously), D has my folder with Documents, Music, Videos, etc. Windows Live Messenger has decided to put a Contacts folder on D AND C. Except, the D Contact Folder is the default, C has no purpose and is empty. I can delete the empty one, but it'll come back. Minor annoyance so whatever.
Firefox's Download Helper addon makes a "dwhelper" folder in my user folder on C and it's empty. That's a bug from the 2.4 version, except it's still in the latest one. I probably had this same bug in XP but didn't notice it. Again, minor annoyance that has nothing to do with Vista.
Oddities about Vista:
AIM 6.8's default skin is black on Vista, it's silver on XP. Why? ._.
Yahoo Messenger 9.0 BETA is also a lot different in Vista than XP. They're basic features that really should be in the XP version. =/
Why is Yahoo Messenger's Profiles folder hidden away? I got the PC yesterday at about 1PM, it's 6AM on Tuesday and I'm just NOW finding it?
Why is the default DreamScene video given to you by Microsoft when you turn on the Ultimate Extra so...boring? :P
Well, I hear thunder in the distance, so I'll probably be shutting this machine down (I don't have the UPS on here yet) before I go to class.
