wtf Seattle?
Feb. 7th, 2007 06:22 amIn Seattle, WA they want to get Initiative 957 passed. It states that you MUST have children by the time you've been married for three years of being married or the marriage will be annulled and you'll receive no tax credits or insurance benefits etc. The people wanting this also want same-sex marriage.
They're trying to make a point that if your only argument is "marriage is for procreation!" then that means everyone who is married MUST have children.
lol...
This is a bad way to get your point across. What about those who simply can't have kids (be it because of fertility problems or lifestyle problems)? What if the marriage is a crappy one but, because of how strong love can be, they don't want to divorce? Do you dare bring a child up in that environment? Does that make these type of marriages exempt? No, probably not.
Not to mention, having a baby is a very personal decision...it shouldn't be something you're FORCED to do.
EDIT:
Sure, they're trying to make a point and obviously this won't pass. This is trying to make people think. The problem is, most people HATE to think. Especially on a touchy subject like same-sex marriage. So I don't think this'll make anyone anything but angry.
